National IT and Special Needs Advisory Service This service which is under the auspices of the Department of Education and Science and based in the Central Remedial Clinic in Dublin, has been in operation since 2000. It offers the following services:
National Centre for Technology in Education The National Centre for Technology in Education (NCTE) has been established under the aegis of the Department of Education and Science, to facilitate the integration of ICT into teaching and learning in Irish schools. The NCTE's brief includes teacher training, pilot projects and developing other resources in support of ICT in education in general. It also has information and advisory resources dealing specifically with ICT and special needs.
Scoil Net ScoilNet (http://www.scoilnet.ie) is the official Internet web-site for Irish primary and post-primary schools. It has a range of information, resources and discussion groups for those working with students with special needs including special needs technology.
National Educational Psychological Service (NEPS)
ICT Advisors ICT Advisors Information and Communication Technology Advisors are located in Education Centres throughout the country. Their role includes advising schools on how best to use ICT in education. While most of the ICT advisors will not have a specialist knowledge of assistive technology applications, they will have a good overview of the role of technology in special education. They may be especially helpful in having knowledge of services, or sources of advice, in any particular region.
